WELCOME
The United Methodist Leadership Scholars (UMLS) program is sponsored by United Methodist Churches in the southeast and the colleges and universities listed below. UMLS is supported by the General Board of Higher Education and Ministry (GBHEM) and the United Methodist Higher Education Foundation (UMHEF).
This Scholarship program is designed to encourage active United Methodist students to attend a United Methodist-related college or university by offering up to $3,000 in scholarship funds. These sponsoring colleges and universities intentionally affirm students as God's children through the development of the whole student — intellectually, by developing leadership capability, and growing spiritually through programs that focus on the individual student.
It is hoped that these transformational experiences available at our United Methodist colleges and universities will guide students to make vocational choices for Christian-service to church and society and that these students will emerge as leaders — lay and clergy — of the United Methodist Church.
Through the UMLS program, local churches are encouraged to provide $1,000 scholarships on behalf of the students planning to enroll in a participating United Methodist-related college or university. These institutions have agreed to match local church funds for a total award of $2,000. In addition, UMHEF has agreed to provide a limited number of $1,000 matching scholarships for a total award of $3,000 (local church, UMHEF, and school funds).
UMLS is a point-of-entry scholarship only. Applicants must be first-time enrollees in a United Methodist-related higher education institution (any undergraduate, entry level, class status) to be eligible for a UMLS award. Applicants must also be active members of the United Methodist Church (for at least one year) and planning to enroll full-time in the fall at a participating United Methodist-related college or university.
